Land Bank

A public authority that takes title to vacant, abandoned, or tax-foreclosed property to return it to use.

Land banks acquire properties that would otherwise sit unsold, clear title, and sell or redevelop them under their own programs.

In cities with an active land bank, many tax-foreclosed homes never reach the public auction.

How it works by state

Michigan
Unsold or transferred foreclosed properties can go to a land bank fast track authority under Michigan law.
