Installment Plan

An arrangement that lets an owner pay delinquent property taxes over time and stop a sale.

Many counties let owners spread delinquent taxes over several years while keeping current taxes paid. An owner on a valid plan is generally not sold out.

A parcel on an early auction list may disappear because the owner entered a plan.

How it works by state

California
California allows a five-year installment plan for tax-defaulted property, subject to its conditions.
