Parcel Number

The unique ID a county assigns to a piece of land. Also called APN (Assessor's Parcel Number), PIN, or folio number.

The parcel number is the reliable way to identify a tax sale property. Addresses can be missing, shared, or wrong, especially for vacant land.

Use the parcel number to look up the assessor record, the parcel map, and recorded documents before bidding.

How it works by state

Florida
Miami-Dade calls its parcel number a folio number.

General information, reviewed 2026-10-12. Not legal advice. Rules change and each county publishes its own sale terms; confirm with the county before bidding.
