Process

Right to Redeem

The owner's legal right to pay the tax debt and keep the property before the government's sale or deed becomes final.

The right to redeem belongs to the owner and others with a legal interest, such as a mortgage lender. Paying the full redemption amount ends the tax sale process for that parcel.

Buyers should know exactly when the right ends in their state, because it determines whether a winning bid can be undone.
